Subic Bay, Philippines
Subic Bay is located on the west coast of Central Luzon, Zambales, Philippines. Two and a half hours drive from the capital city of Manila. Formerly the site of a major United States Navy facility named U.S Naval Base Subic Bay.
Our first stop was Zoobic Safari.
We rode an enclosed Jeepney for the Safari. We chose an option with feeding so we could watch the tiger get feed up close. The tiger wasn’t very hungry and hesitated for a while but finally he approached the vehicle and ate few pieces of chicken. He even joined in the safari ride himself by jumping on top of our Jeep!
We bought some more chicken and fed also the crocodiles and lions.
After visiting the Zoobic Safari park we drove to Las Casas Filipinas De Acuzar.
Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar is a beach resort, convention center and heritage destination all rolled into one.
It’s a beautiful place to visit but very remote from the port where our ship docked that day at the drive was long and not pleasant in a tiny, hot, overcrowded van without proper ventilation.
We had a authentic Filipino lunch and after that we had a boat ride, then back to the ship.
This was definitely the highlight of our Zoobic visit.
Interesting fact about Subic Bay:
Subic Bay has been a US naval base since 1898, and was the largest overseas naval base at the time. The base was closed in the early 1990s, and is now the Subic Freeport Zone.
