Okinawa, Japan
Okinawa is a subtropical prefecture in the southernmost part of Japan and comprises over 160 islands.
The islands are surrounded by the East China Sea and the Pacific Ocean. Naha is the capital and largest city.
While the Okinawa islands provide a lot of water-based activities in the summer time for Japanese, we visited in the early spring so we didn’t go the the beach.
Our excursion took us to the one of the top locations for sightseeing - Shuri Castle, home to the rulers of the Ryukyu Kingdom and the name of the former capital originally built in the late 1300s.
Next stop was at Okinawa World, a touristy theme park dedicated to culture on Okinawa’s Main Island.
The main attractions at Okinawa World are a Gyokusendo Cave, a craft village and snake museum.
Last stop was Kokusaidori Street which literally means "International Road" and is Naha's main tourist and shopping street.
We had some local crafted ice-cream and tasted snake Habushu which is an awamori-based liqueur made in Okinawa, Japan.
Fun fact about Okinawa:
- Okinawa is one of the world's Blue Zone regions where people live longer than the global average with an average person living to be over 90.
BTW. I tried seaweed Kitkat. I hope i will live longer ;-)
