La Serena (Coquimbo), Chile

Coquimbo is a little rough around the edges, it is a port town with lots of murals ridden walls and bohemian feel.
This coastal city is mix of beaches, old town monuments, many street murals, grafitti and lots of English history.

We had an excursion called “British Coquimbo”.
We visited the English Cemetery (1850), then we went to see very unique metal church designed and made in 1889 at the Eiffel factory in France.
Then we drove to see Sailor’s Monument viewpoint located on a hill that offers wonderful views of La Herradura bay and neighboring areas.
Next was Fuerte Lambert fort. Built in 1865 to guard the entrance of the bay of Coquimbo during the war with Spain.
While driving through the city, we saw Third Millennium Cross, stunning Morrocan-style Mosque, and beaches popular among surfing community.

Next port will be Arica, Chile.
Tomorow relaxing day at sea.

Fun fact: Coquimbo is a major center for pisco production, a traditional grape brandy that is popular throughout Chile.
