Day 33
January 12, 2024.
Antarctica,
The 7th continent and part of almost everyone’s bucketlist.
It's hard to describe how spectacular, raw, humbling, dynamic, and alive Antarctica is—and the Gerlache Strait has it all. I am in love! 🤍
The Gerlache Strait is a narrow channel about 200 km long that separates the western coast of the Antarctic Peninsula from the Palmer Archipelago.
Antarctica has a lot of penguins, we saw hundreds today. It is also a heaven for whales. We saw tens of whales as well.
It’s summer time right now in Antarctica. It is not very cold only 34F/1C.
Almost all of Antarctica lies south of the Antarctic Circle. This means that during the summer, the Sun never sets below the horizon, no matter where you are on the continent.
It’s almost midnight, waaay after sunset, and it’s not dark. Long days!
Fun fact: Antarctica is the driest continent on the planet and is officially classified as a desert.
Heading now towards Elephant Island.
PS.
The sunrise at present position will be 3:16
Present air temperature is 34F/1C
